That is not the case. When we fly army helicopters we have to abide by all
those TFRs aswell

Only because the Army has adopted that policy.

Where you from? What is your local NASCAR track? Just wondering...

Our local NASCAR track (Old Dominion Speedway) is just inside HEF's class D.

The dirt track at Winchester is right under the base leg for the runway.

Of course, we all know how untrustworthy Army Aviation is.

Absolutely. Although they are not as untrustworthy as the Navy. :-)

But I would be the last to start an interservice flame war on Usenet. Well,
maybe I wouldn't.

I don't think so. They took all of the armed aircraft away from the Army in
1948. If it weren't for helos sneaking in later the Army would not have any
guns in the skies.

You will note that the Navy got to keep its armed aircraft.

So the Navy is more trustworthy than the Army.

Yeah but Daytona Beach Airport and the speedway are right next to each
other.

There should have been a presidential TFR in addition to the standard

"crowd
/ event" TFR.. guess which takes priority..

If the airport is that close to the race track, then I'm sure everyone

had
to be on a clearance and in ATC contact to land there during the race.

Glad our local NASCAR track is far from the local airports, but the

local
AF
Base is within the standard "crowd / event" TFR radius, and I'm sure

they
don't stand down on race week.

damn
well
pleases...

I promise, promise, promise there is no political agenda here. I just

think
this is a great photo. Don't know how far the runway is from the stands,

but
the illusion is that the wings are practically over the race crowd.

The picture looks foreshortened, I guess due to a zoom lens, making it

look
close to the crowd. While it is close, it's not *that* close!

What I thought was really impressive was when AF-1 circled the track at a
low altitude. I believe that may have been the first time I've ever seen a
747 do that. That thing is BIG. Gave me chills and made me strangely

nervous
at the same time.

IIRC...

Air Force One did a flyby at the Kitty Hawk 100th celebration as well...

I believe that does not apply to U.S. military aircraft.

Thanx... looks like the perfect airport neighbor.. a noisy track..

We have found that the combination works well at Old Bridge, NJ. Local

residents
tend to complain more about the drag strip than the airport. They're

outnumbered
by the race fans.

Perfect... let the track take the heat for the noise...

Is it possibly a doctored photo? Look at one of the light standards in the
stands, and the main gear. Looks a little fishy to me.

Of course I know nothing about photography, So I could be way off

What looks out of place, Dan?
