Default Woo-hoo! 3 Cheers for AOPA!

We (and Iowa City) got a really nice write up by Fly Guide's Nick Selby
today in AOPA!

For AOPA members (and who, here, isn't?) see
http://www.aopa.org/members/files/pi...iowa_city.html

For non-AOPA members (and you know who you are!), see a mirror of the
article on our website at http://www.alexisparkinn.com/aopa's_review.htm

Nick did a terrific (and very, VERY thorough) job of writing about all the
unusual and fabulous things that are going on in our very "un-Iowa-ish"
community.

We've been getting emails and calls all day long, and -- BEST OF ALL -- our
airport commission and manager have forwarded this article to our City
Councilmembers. You know -- those folks who think our airport is nothing
but a drain on the taxpayers?

:-)

Thank you, AOPA!

Jay and Mary, that's great! Nice job, and a nice article. Makes me want
to fly out to Iowa just for a weekend visit!

Maybe that do-nothing AOPA rep at the airport was actually doing something after all?
If so, he seems to have come through in spades this time.

Careful, George. I'm the AOPA rep at our local airport (Danbury, CT),
and I'm constantly at work "behind the scenes". Politics, like elephant
gestation, takes many months.

He wasn't getting on AOPA reps, but rather refering to a previous post
made by Jay. I almost did the same thing, but was worried someone
wouldn't see the jesting nature of the comment, as happened here.

Nothing personal was meant, I don't believe.

Take no offense, Rip. George is referring to OUR truly "do-nothing" AOPA
rep here in Iowa City -- an airline pilot whom I have never met in over 7
years of daily life on the field.

In fact, yesterday I found out that he LIVES IN MINNEAPOLIS. Our AOPA rep
is a guy who (a) only wants the title for his resume, (b) none of us has
ever seen at a single meeting, and (c) refuses to quit the position, in the
face of overwhelming local opposition to his position.

Sadly, in the face of (c), AOPA will not remove him, and thus we are left
with no representation from AOPA while we find ourselves in the fight for
our lives here in Iowa City.

And, no, George -- that guy had absolutely, positively NOTHING to do with
this article -- guaranteed.

Well, I'm not sure what a "towl" is -- but if I can find any, you can keep
all you want!
