Don't forget RICHARD BACH

I think he actually flew in a standard Nationals in
Arizona about 23 years ago!

Well, Richard & Leslie spent time rambling all over
the southwest in the late '70's... at Estrella, he
often serenaded us on his keyboard as sunset faded
to dusk. (And BTW, Richard was kind enough to loan
his ASW-19 to Les Horvath for the 1978 US Standard
Class Nationals at Marana - which Les won.)

I can't remember the name of the actor, but he was
a fairly big guy
and stared in a detective/police show which aired in
Germany under the
title 'Der Dicke' (The big one). He owned/flew an Applebay
'Mescalero'. Maybe he would qualify as a soaring celeb.

The actor was William Conrad and in the US, the TV
show was called 'Cannon.' (I thought he flew a Caproni?)

Regarding Richard Bach....

About 15 years ago, Sam Foote donated his motor glider (I believe a Scheibe
Falke SF-25) to MIT Soaring. Sam commented to me that the previous owner of
the motor glider was Richard Bach. He stated that Richard at one time flew
it across the US.

By the way, the Scheibe was the 2nd glider that the late Sam Foote donated
to MIT Soaring. The first one, a Schweizer 2-xx was in partnership with a
family member of Dennison Manufacturing (office supplies) (I believe).

A couple of years ago, I read where a PW-5 pilot landed out and a cow tried
to 'mount' his PW-5, destroying the fuselage. If I remember correctly, the
'mounter' was Anna Nicole Smith. She's so outrageous !

PW-5? Disgusting.

In France Michel Rocard flew gliders (up to 300 km) even when he was
prime minister in the late '80s
