Default oil changes

anyone found a website about changing oil in a cessna 172? I've got a
172B and it's getting to that time for an oil change. I need to change
the oil from mineral to something else after my break in, is synthetic
good?
For anyone following, I found a cheap avionics place near RDU, as well
as a cheap hangar which I'll be moving into within the week.

Since you are asking about changing oil, my first question is, "How do
you know your engine is broken in?"
Has your oil consumption stabilized?
Have your cylinder head temperatures stabilized?
These are important questions if you are considering using
synthetic/semi-synthetic oil.
If the engine is not fully broken in, switching to the
synthetic/semi-synthetic will further delay the process.

And continuing the discussion --- do you have a copy of the parts
and maintenance manual for your aircraft? Safety wire? A bucket or
such into which the oil will drain? A way to dispose of the oil?

In the Piper maintenance manuals there is a detailed description
with pictures how to change the oil. I dunno about Cessna.

for what it's worth, i'll be looking at my first oil change on my
'62-172-c soon and my plan is to get my a&p to walk me thru an oil
change and plug cleaning at my hanger with my tools etc. get me set up
to do it right. he knows that i'll lose interest soon as i understand
it and just have him do it. i don't think he'll charge too much extra
for my help.

First oil change? After 44 years? D00d! You are WAY overdue!

My mechanic doesn't charge extra for owner assist.
The first time I needed an oil change, she said bring
the plane over. I stood around and watched. The
next time I told her I needed an oil change, she said
bring the plane over, and she handed me a bucket, a
screwdriver and a case of oil.

She divides her customers into two groups: airplane
owners (who will do some amount of maintenance) and
those who are "just pilots."

Which is the avionics shop, and at what airport did you find a cheap hangar?

By the way, if you don't already have one on the engine, do yourself a
favor, spend the $60 at Chief and get yourself a quick drain for the oil
drain hole. jw

OH MAN you are right about THAT! Completely changed the way I think
about oil changes!!!
