So what's the latest on light singles at McCarran? The last time I
tried to get in I was VFR and was curtly told that there would be a 90
minute delay for VFR arrivals. Am I better off filing IFR, or would
the delays get worse? Would I be more likely to get in IFR?

I know I can go to Henderson or North Las Vegas, but I have some pax to
drop off on the strip and McCarran w/ shuttle service is so much more
convenient for them than a rental car, etc.

Call Eagle Flight Services at McCarran, they are on the approach end to
Rwy19R and would know.
I see singles there and at Signature all the time.

When were you trying to get in and got shut out? Mid-Afternoon to early
evening is a very heavy arrival time.

90 minutes?!

LAS Airport Operational Statistics
Aircraft based on the field: 116
Single engine airplanes: 10
Multi engine airplanes: 12
Jet airplanes: 61
Helicopters: 33

(they seem to cater to jets)

Aircraft operations: avg 1468/day
62% commercial
19% transient general aviation
11% air taxi
4% local general aviation
4% military

Avgas at LAS 5.94, VGT 3.41. Mileage to "The Strip"- 4 vs 8.

They don't like you and your ilk soiling the tarmac at LAS.

I'd use VGT and call a cab on approach.

No need to, they (as well as Henderson) have a free shuttle to the strip.

Henderson Shuttle? hmm... When we were at Henderson in March, they didn't
have a shuttle to anywhere. They offered Enterprise rent a car or to call a
taxi. They also offered to call our hotel and have their limo come for us
($50 per person, no thanks) Is this part of their new terminal/FBO? It
wasn't finished when we were there.

Look here and read the reviews or call the FBO:

Wow! What a deal!
In March, before the shuttle, we had to call a cab, wait for an hour for the
cab, drive to McCarran where we had our rental car reserved, drive back to
HND to load up the girls and the kids, then drive to the strip. A shuttle
would have been awesome.

Good to know, thanks for the tip.

When I was there in October, they had one. Started sometime over the
summer, if I recall correctly.

Yep.

I fly into LAS VFR on a regular basis (every couple of months or so)
to drop someone off or pick them up. I come from the west (TSP,
through the Trona Gap, usually). The longest delay I've had was about
5-7 minutes. They've always been VERY friendly and helpful to me as
VFR traffic. Maybe someone slept on the couch the night before :-).

Anyway, sound professional on the radio and I think you'll get good
service almost all the time.....

And yes, it's a LOT more convenient than VGT or Henderson.
