She only had like 1500 hours flight time...????

Barely more than the requirement for an ATP...

My 2... Political correctness run amok. An Astronaut with only 1500
hours???? Egads

I bet my paycheck against anybody's that the "Mercury 7" all had WAY more
than any 1500 hours. Moreover, I bet that the males in her class all had

way
more than any 1500 hours.

Hell, I had over 6000 hours before I ever flew an airplane with a copilot,
or for that matter an autopilot.

MICHAEL ³MIKE² FINCKE (LIEUTENANT COLONEL, USAF)
NASA ASTRONAUT: over 825 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft
types.

I really love this one...825 hours in more than 30 different aircraft
types....gimme a ****in' break. I want to see this guy's logbook.

I've almost got that many hours myself, and I'm just a dork in a
Cessna.....

Disagree. Not a dork. Just another guy building his experience. Same as I
did. Same as every real pilot did, and does, on a a daily basis....And we
**** up, all the time, but we learn from those mistakes so as not to do them
again.

We never "know it all", and anyone who says he does is the real dork, and a
hazard to air navigation.

Some may quote what NASA says is an "astronaut", but NASA has no
regulatority authority, but the FAA does, and by the FAA definition, one
must have actually piloted a spacecraft to earn an "Astronaut" rating. That
don't mean a "mission specialist".

Now, some may take offense to this fact, but nevertheless, it is the fact,
and to those who may have some political and/or other axe to grind I say
this....WHO FLYS THE MACHINE????

Answer = ASTRONAUT!!!!!\

Anybody else is just along for the ride, despite whatever job they have to
do.. Might as well be a guy operating a deep sea remotely operated
submersible. That don't make them a "saturation diver", does it?

I know this will not convince you; however, here is the Wikipedia
definition of "astronaut."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronaut
Dictionary.com defines it as:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/astronaut
You don't have to be a pilot to meet the "travel in space" definition.

OK. So anybody who has a bazillion dollars and can buy his/her way into
space is an astronaut? So I could win the lottery and buy my way to the ISS
and that would make me an astronaut???

What a disgrace to those brave men who risked, and lost, their lives to
advance the state of the art.

Gus Grissom, best stick of the bunch, once dead sticked an F-86 into WXOF
(know what that means...?) would be, I think, absolutely paralyzed by your
and the modern media's definition of what an "astronaut" is.

Haven't see WX0F in a synoptic in years (Indefinite Ceiling Obscured Zero
visibility in Fog), of course I quit flying in 2001.

I spent 5 years in USAFE, I've seen WX0F.

They changed it to the current Eurocentric "Metar/TAF" format a while back.
BR = mist???? Egads. Is that French or something? Thank God for computers.
These days I just have it converted to regular English. Took a .297
checkride once where the POI wanted me to read a TAF/METAR. I just laughed
and had the observation/forcast changed to regular language. It was good
enough. A lot has changed since we got our WX off the teletype, hasn't it?

I bet that's right!

Cheers!
