This is where the US serial number scheme can be confusing.


The book I scanned the picture from, said F-104E (I have NFI - I post what
the book says). So I checked the serial from Joe Baughers excellent
site and (assuming) the full serial is 63-13270, the plane is a Luftwaffe
'G' model, out of Luke AFB.


From this aspect, we can't see whether the pilot's helmet has a spike or
not, so I'm still open to suggestions (ones that don't involve the spike).

LOL Soike on hat good one LOl

BTW there never was an E version of the 1O4

The G's flown in the states from Germany had to have USAF marking in
case of a crash. Cant Sue the government was the reason I heard.

I suppose a Luftwaffe crash in the US would be a lawyer's retirement plan,
with 2 governments to go after.

The Dutch also flew the F-104G model.......I know, I guarded them...ha ha
