Looks like they lost all the old historic RAS posts.

I was a useful reference that is now gone

Is the archive available using a usenet reader? I never got mine to
work, so maybe now it's time to figure it out. It's a great resource
and avoids duplicate posts.

I don't have a special newsgroup reader, I'm just using mozzarella
(firefox brand), but have no problem accessing archived posts...
perhaps it is just a search glitch as yesterday when I was using the
'search this group' function for something in the ghosts of posts
past, I couldn't find any matches what I was looking for... but when
I click on 'about this group' it pulls up the entire post history in a
calendar format and it let me open the oldest one (1992) in addition
to any others I tried while I was testing... but still no search
matches which is why I think it's just the search function that is
wacky right now.

groups.google.com still list 42389 topics under RAS and it appears
navigable, but not searchable beyond a couple of weeks. Weekend
maintenance perhaps.

There is a workaround. Go to the main Google Groups page: http://groups.google.com/
and in the upper search field type
"group:rec.aviation.soaring" (without quotes) and then your query.

Thanks for the tip, could have used that a bit earlier, but searched
alternatively.

Bart, thanks very much for this tip! You helped me to find something I
really needed.

These old RAS posts are indeed a very good resource - there's some
real gold hidden in the chatter. Is there any way to download the
archives, so they could be preserved independent of Google?
