Forget those little "13.1" and "26.2" decals the half-marathon and marathon finishers put on the vehicles - You Kansas boys can put on some really big numbers!
"4-5-5, what's that?" "Flew a sailplane 455 miles without an engine." Silence. |

From the UK Open Record list:
Free Distance 827.9km T J Wills LS-6 29/05/1986 OK it only started in the UK, finished in France. At 13:33 09 April 2014, Nigel Pocock wrote: I make that about 850km wind assisted. Nice flight. We cant do that sort o thing in the uk, the landmass isnt big enough! I pitty the poor retrieve crew - he is probably still driving. Well done. |

So...didja suffer from oxygen poisoning way down there at sea level? Partake of any jambalaya or shrimp gumbo while waiting for your crew? How about Alligator McNuggets? Too bad you couldn't'a made Lake Charles - think how it woulda enhanced your story: "I flew 550 miles without an engine...and then landed in Lake Charles!" ("How'd you get the glider out of the lake?!?" exclaims the impressed babe.) Way to go, dood!!! Bob W. |

Thanks Bob! No jambalaya but I did have some popeyes fries chicken while sitting in a cheap motel. Does that count?
It would've been really cool to have seen open water but the situation just didn't allow for making it the last 25 miles. Next time. |
