Passengers manipulating controls

If you have Costello Insurance, they will tell you that passengers do not touch the controls. Any accident with a passenger that touched the controls may void your insurance whether or not it was caused by the passenger. Beware!

How is "passenger" defined in this context? If I give a ride, and the person receiving the ride handles the controls, then that person is receiving instruction and is a student pilot not a passenger.

That's all well and good if you happen to hold a CFIG certificate. Many
clubs don't have enough instructors to handle both instruction and rides.

I think the wiki idea is a great idea.
Currently the only thing we have for learning from accidents other than the typical useless NTSB report is this forum and occasional magazine article.

Certainly more information and knowledge will - for the thoughtful - be good,
but don't underestimate the value of "simple self-protective curiosity" when
it comes to gleaning potentially useful information from (e.g.) NTSB reports
and magazine articles! :-)
