Default Planning for Summer

Hi Everyone,

A friend and I are planning a soaring vacation during 21-26 June 2015.
A couple of choices are Nephi, UT and Telluride, CO. Can anyone tell me
if there are full time tows available at either of these locations
during our planned time?

Also, can anyone suggest a mountain soaring site with reliable tows
within about a long day's drive of Albuquerque/Santa Fe?

Nephi, Utah now has a permanent tow plane through the on-field skydive business (http://skydivethewasatch.com) that operates from April-October. In 2014 they were open Wednesday through Sunday. I now keep my own glider permanently at Nephi and only had one time the entire year that I wanted to get a tow from them and was not able to. Please note they try to work glider tows in between jumps and gliders are secondary to their core business. The other good news is the Nephi tow pilot from 2014 will NOT be returning and the new pilot for 2015 is an Alaskan bush pilot and sounds pretty cool, is excited to tow gliders, and hopefully will be much less easily stressed...

Don't discount Logan, Utah as well!!! It is an amazing mountain soaring location with a huge airport and amazing large town with great restaurants and hotels. With the travel time between these two locations less than 3 hours, my recommendation is to split up your trip between the two based on weather forecasts. Spend some time at both depending on the week's forecast.

I was just talking with TT last night about needing to set up a new website with info for flying these two locations. We should have it set up easily by then but feel free to contact me personally if you want any more info before.

Salida Co (KANK) is 5'ish hour drive north of Santa fe. See http://www.airsafetynet.com/rates_2014.html for tow information. On a decent day you should be able to easily launch from ABQ and fly there. Plenty of mountain flying to be had there. In that time period, there could be a number of other glider there flying daily so you shouldn't be alone.

Thanks!

We flew Salida last June and had a great time. When I was at Black
Forest, the club had a couple of camps there. And Salida's already on
our list. Just looking for something different.
