Ok, that seal the deal. If this the Robbie I think it is, Hank, this is perfect. He took me up for my first glider flight in 13 years and we flew a duo disco waaaay further than we were meant to (Dansville and back... He wasn't cross country cleared!) trying to make an old Cambridge work along the way. He was a fantastic host, and asked nothing in return. This is a nice repayment!
I'll email you to get addresses, Hank. Dan, enjoy the Cambridge! |

Kudos! Classy move that we should emulate to support the growth of soaring.

Well I dont know Pete, I just installed a 302 in my 1-26 and it is fantasticly working slaved to an older oudie. I just finished an 140 mile xc a few days ago in pretty weak conditions and that pair did dang near everything I could hope for. I dont think for most sailplanes that much more is needed unless a guy is entering serious competition.

I think it's great this thread was started. I will say, I asked about one item offered only because it has "some historical/sentimental value" to me. Why? I crewed for Raouf Ishmail in the '70's, he sent me a prototype vario & audio which was used a lot (the vario was an additional payment...... used for years in 1-26 SN 002! by me & others) I even have the "carbonless copy" of the slip sent with it. Fantastic to see peep's helping out the "new generation" with "stuff". I was helped as well, actually, still being helped although I have little to show for it (other than really shiny gliders). Maybe others can find a "tax reason" to help out the next group, you gain a bit, the next group gains a lot more!! |

It's only tax deductible if the donation is to a charitable 501(c)(3) organization as defined by the IRS. Some clubs qualify. I know the Seattle Glider Council Foundation which was established for educational purposes is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3). If there's interest I can see if they would be up for receiving instruments in good working order and getting them into the proper hands. There's a fair amount of administrative effort to get documentation back to donors and to distribute donations properly & it's a volunteer organization, but it's worth pitching. Cheers, 7Q |

Cheers, 7Q Excellent reply, thanks. If it goes through our club we are also a 501 (c) (3) IIRC. Not saying this is needed for a "low price" item, but good to know. Thanks for the info. BTW, tax time is coming, "charitable donations" can help out peeps before doing 2015 taxes. ;-) |

I'm pretty sure donations would have to be made by Dec 31, 2015 for them to apply to 2015 taxes.
Don't let that stop you from making a donation either way. Paul A. |
