![]() "Merlin Dorfman" wrote Four years ago, the draft-dodger Bush was running against somebody who volunteered for the Army and was on the ground in Vietnam, albeit in a non-combat role. Nevertheless he managed to make himself look like the hero and the volunteer look like a coward. Draft-doger. In the above context, "draft-doger" would appear to be anyone who was not 'drafted'. Bush (TX ANG - fighter pilot) Gore (Army volunteer - journalist?) Kerry (Naval Reserve - eventually a SB captain) Clinton (none - actively avoided being drafted or serving in any way) Clinton seems to be the only one who fits the 'draft-dodger' moniker. How is volunteering for the Air Guard different from volunteering for the Navy Reserve? 2/3 of the military during the Vietnam era did not see SEA. And, Art K's screechings notwithstanding, you usually do not get to choose where you go. Pete |
