There are three active pins on a mic plug:
The long metal shaft closest to the connections is common, or ground. The next section is called the ring, and it is the microphone audio. The top section is called the tip, and it is grounded when you want to put the radio into the transmit mode. I don't understand what the mic cable with a "screen" is. If by "screen" you mean a braided shield, that is the common (ground) connection. The inner wire is the microphone audio lead. We used to sell E951s. I haven't seen one in twenty years. Jim "S Green" shared these priceless pearls of wisdom: -Picked up an old headset in an aerojumble. The headphones are ok, The mic -does not work because the mic plug was removed. - -I was wondering how one wires up the mic plug. I just happen to have a pj068 -about. - -The mic cable has an inner cable with a screen outside of it, There are -three possible connecting places on the pj068. Just wondering how I should -connect it. - -BTW the headset is a Telex E951. -Thanks -sg - Jim Weir (A&P/IA, CFI, & other good alphabet soup) VP Eng RST Pres. Cyberchapter EAA Tech.
