Interesting. This used to be a New Hampshire calumny:

"Throw Father down the stairs his shoes."

Supposedly French-Canadian, in this case.

(I've heard that all the Applachian hillbilly jokes are also current
in Australia, except that the subjects are Tasmanians.)
