There was some sort of lawsuit about invasion of privacy. They tried to actually get the FAA to make the database private, but the courts ruled simply to allow individuals to restrict their own entries. There was NO lawsuit. The FAA was just informed (rightfully) that the distribution of the database was a violation of the privacy act (no bones about it, it was clearly wrong). They had to get a congressional exemption to reinstate it, but that exemption included the requirement that pilots be given the chance to opt out and that everybody be informed of the option. Unfortunately, if you didn't take that oppurtunity then, the FAA has made it impossible to opt out now. I've been trying for over a year. |
