If you really think it's important to keep a room clear for someone who
thinks they'll be allergic to a dog that was in the room before them, keep
a
room or two as "no smoking, no dogs". Putting dog owners in smoking rooms
is dumb.

If I had 200 suites, that might be possible, Pete. I have 27 -- of which
only 10 are "theme suites" thus far. (3 more are in the works...)

Then insist on a suitable deposit. As a dog owner, I can tell you that
we'd
happily put down a $1000 refundable damage deposit

That's pretty funny! Many of our guests are stretching to make the $99.95
theme suite rate. If I were to ask for a $1000 deposit, that would be the
same as posting a sign out front that says "No Pets Allowed".

Worse, pet damage doesn't manifest itself while the guest is still around.
Kitty pee becomes noticeable about a week after the guest is gone -- far too
late to charge them for damage.

The majority of our guests with pets fully understand the risk I'm taking
allowing pets in our suites, and are simply happy we allow them at all.
With many thousands of dollars tied up in each theme suite, I would be a
fool to put my investment at such a needless risk.

As we continue the transition to all-theme suites, eventually both smoking
*and* pets will go away. Both groups represent an incredible risk -- just
ask any insurance company.

I had thought that on our next trip that takes us through Iowa, we'd stop
by
Alexis Park Inn, but since you have a "pet owner equals smoker" policy, I
can assure you we'll steer clear.
