Please do not use png, I do not have any software on my machine that will read them. No MicroSoft products installed. png doesn't have anything to do with M$. png was developed as a patent free replacement for gif after Honeywell asserted its patent rights over the compression scheme used by Compuserve in the gif algorithym. But the patent has run out, so gifs are royalty free now.
