![]() "Corky Scott" wrote in message ... First there was the song, then there were people naming things using the song title. Actually, first there was a poem. The poem that formed the basis for the song "Puff, the Magic Dragon" was written in 1959 by Leonard Lipton. Lipton passed his work along to friend and fellow Cornell student Peter Yarrow. Yarrow set the poem to music and wrote additional lyrics. In 1961 Yarrow teamed up with Mary Travers and Paul Stookey to form Peter, Paul & Mary. The trio recorded the song in 1962. |
