SMALL AIRCRAFT CRASHES

Pilot killed as homebuilt plane goes down in field.

One man was killed Wednesday after his homebuilt aircraft crashed in a
Brazoria county hayfield.

The one-man private airplane crashed about 7 pm, nearly one mile south
of Clover Field airport in Pearland. Officials had not released the
man's identity at press time.


Brady Mora was working in his business when he heard a muffled
explosion coming from outside.

I turned around and looked behind me. That's when we saw the aircraft
sitting out in the middle of the field, said Mora, owner of
Friendswood Firewood Company.

Mora said people who identified themselves as family members of teh
dead pilot were at te4h scene. Department of Public Safety troopers
and local law enforcement cordoned off teh crash site.

His brother said he was quiet and an intellectual, Mora said.

Officials did not know if the plane crashed during take-off or landing
at the field.
