There have been many "resistance" movements that have
given the most powerful armies on earth a run for their money. Here's but a few.... American Revolutionary War. Which required the *2nd* greatest power to pitch in with its fleet in order to turn the tide. War of 1812. Which we came *damn* near losing, and we *did* lose our capitol city, despite having a full-sized army as well as "resistance." In effect, the enemy got tired of us, after they choked off all our war aims. Korean War. Which required the assistance of the Chinese. Vietnam. Which required the assistance of the Russians. Russian failure in Afghanistan. Point taken. U.S. quagmire in Afghanistan. Can't count a war that isn't over. U.S.quagmire in Iraq. Can't count a war that isn't over. Don't believe the US has won anything in either Afghanistan or Iraq. Neither are secure and the jury is still out and may be for decades. So, logically, you can't argue either way from these conflicts (which are really campaigns in the War of 2001). The tide in both places could easily turn if the "imperial" power in question were to fight a little nastier. From my vantage point.... It's a test of wills, not weapons. Barnyard BOb - GEA |
