The FAI has announced a new style of racing to be tried at France's
famous St. Auban national gliding center in early September 2005. A single entry will be allowed per country and all participants will race in the 15 Meter class. Included in the new racing format as departures from the classic approach are a regatta start, multiple circuits of a course close to the field, maximum turnpoint altitudes for spectator enjoyment, and many more. The objective is to raise media and spectator awareness of sailplane racing, and the event is a bit of an experiment with a new format. Pilots ranked using the US Team Selection ranking are eligible and invited to apply. See the US Team web site for more. www.ssa.org/UsTeam/ John Seaborn |
