How practical is it to stay at Camp Scholler (Oshkosh) without a car? I
plan to fly into Appleton, and take a bus to OSH thus avoiding a rental
car. Suggestions appreciated.

I encourage you not to mess with all that. Just fly into OSH and camp in
the North 40 with the rest of us nut-cases!

The arrival procedure is simplicity itself once you have read (and
understood) the NOTAM. Don't be intimidated by it -- over 12,000 pilots
of all skills and experience do it every July -- you can too.

Waking up in the morning next to your airplane, with 11,999 of your closest
friends stretched to the horizon in all directions, is truly an experience.
And to avoid the daily hassle of catching a shuttle bus is worth its weight
in gold.

I'm with Jay on that. I flew into Appleton and took the bus one time when I
miscalculated my arrival time and got to OSH just as the airport was closing for
the air show. ATC at Appleton was the worst, FBO was about the same level, gas
prices outrageous, bus schedule erratic, and schlepping my gear around after
getting off the bus was a pain. Just fly into OSH.
