As long as I have been seeing Popular Mechanics and/or Popular Science on newsstands...and that is a long time...there have been occasional articles promising an airplane in every garage, or "you can build this airplane" or whatever. If they made any impression on the general public I haven't noticed it. I think that two articles which I cut out and still have, started more people on the homebuilt track than any other until recent times. These were the BD-4 and Jennie's Tennie/ Tennie Two. And one cannot forget the BD-4 articles that sold one hell-of-a-lot of never finished kits. Bob Moore |
