Default Planning trips with Lighthouses close to airports?

And don't forget Okracoke. The only way out there is by ferry or
aircraft. Nice strip, great location. If you can carry a bike you can
bike to the town and the lighthouse.

You have to hurry up because none of the lighthouses are where they were
relative to where they should be now. The outerbanks is just a sand
dune/shoal. One storm and they change shape almost as you watch. But if
you want to build a home, it's the perfect place I'm told.

What a great idea for an odyssey (sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously,
great idea. Definitely check out KHSE (Billy Mitchell Airport in
Hatteras, NC) and KMQI (Dare County Regional in Manteo, NC). Plenty of
beautiful, historic lighthouses in between, including the Cape Hatteras
lighthouse, which was moved 2,900 feet inland, in a massive engineering
project, to prevent it falling into the sea due to erosion (take a look
at the National Park Service site on this:
http://www.nps.gov/caha/lrp.htm)

Have fun -- and post the trip report, please.

Wiz

Has anyone here ever planned a coastal (eastern US) trip that may
take in
lighthouses?
Looking at trying to hop along the coast this summer from Florida (my
state)
all along east coast
visiting lighhouses along the way.

Beaufort County Airport (73J, Beaufort, SC is a very short distance from
the Hunting Island Lighthouse on Hunting Island, SC.
