The operators probably have to eyeball the airspace over the 160 acres being photographed. The mission is to take photographs of fields, so it will always take place in relatively clear conditions. They ought to be able to see full-scale aircraft entering the airspace and command the UAV to descend or change course to avoid the traffic. They might also be able to monitor air-traffic channels and get the controllers to warn them of approaching traffic. I'm sure that the UAV is not cheap. The operators will not want to have mid-airs any more than other pilots. Marty |
