Reports clear Hussein of al Qaeda link Sep 9, 2006 Previously secret US intelligence reports have been released, confirming Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with al Qaeda. The reports directly contradict claims made by President Bush and other administration officials, to justify the war in Iraq. The claim Saddam was funding terror groups against the US was a major plank of the case for the war in Iraq. So the release of the security assessments has set off a storm on Capitol Hill. White House press officer Tony Snow says while the reports do fly in the face of what Bush claimed, it's important to remember the context of the time the US attacked Iraq. Snow says it wasn't just Mr Bush and his allies who wanted to go to war. Democrats say the reports provide proof the American public was misled. They're accusing Bush allies of exploiting American insecurity in the immediate aftermath of the September 11th attacks, almost five years ago. |
