Co-pilots May Sim instead of Fly to Train

No, they were not. No practice runs were conducted. Everything was a
simulation of one kind or another. They could not go to the moon just
to practice going to the moon.

If I'm not mistaken, Armstrong even had to punch out of one when he
lost control.

You can't punch out of a real landing.
