Well, that is pure speculation, isn't it ? My understanding was that the failure which occurred was deemed to be a result of structural problems triggered by overspeed. I am happy to be corrected if I am misremembering - I can't find accident reports on the BGA website any more to check. A friend of mine has an Oly which has been grounded for ever for this reason - the glue in the aluminium/wood/aluminium sandwich spar has seriously deteriorated and is beyond economic repair. He was winching it quite happily until the accident happened. Ian |
