Stinson (SSF) is pretty active for GA, I believe from talking to a pilot who flies out of SA, but I haven't flown in there myself. Close by SA is New Braunfels, to the north east. I've heard that the Kerrville airport is a really nice, first class operation but is a little ways from S.A. maybe about the same distance as previously-mentioned New Braunfels (which is where I got my primary instruction). I was born & raised in San Antonio and the last time I was at S.A. International it was very active for General aviation, although it's the hub of airline activity for S.A. as well. My dad did all the Tx. Taildragger certification testing there as well as flying Howard 250s & 500s and all manner of small G.A. including his Pitts. This was during the 70s through late 80s though and the airport probably has grown a lot along with the rapidly-growing city. Ricky |
