Typical metric stock for panel mounted instruments

I've found some few instruments, including, I seem to recall, the
Cambridge GPS-NAV display unit, use M3.5 threaded studs. I don't
remember the pitch, but I remember that finding screws of that size was
troublesome.

M3.5 now seems to be the standard UK screw for electrical fittings (Wall
sockets, etc.), though possibly not all that useful for instrument
mounting, since they usually have countersunk slotted heads finished as
shiny metal.
