However because nitrogen, unlike air, doesn't degrade rubber, it may be preferable for this reason. Either air or nitrogen will leak out a lot slower than helium, which diffuses through solids three times faster than air. Only hydrogen has a higher gaseous diffusion rate (154% of helium's rate).
