Avenues are supposed to be roads lined with trees, and the best sun for that comes if the road runs west and east... which is the way of most cities. |

The entire Puget Sound area uses the convention that avenues are north/south and streets are east/west. Practically all the cities here use that convention, including Seattle, so I'd hardly call a city that uses that convention "rare". There must be a hundred or more cities around here that do. Pete |

This far north, you're lucky to get any sun at all at ground level on one of the streets at anything besides high summer. At least the avenues will get sun several hours a day.
