Are fluctuations in the American market that critical
to the German manufacturers? I genuinely don't know - but America is a fairly small gliding country (with a roughly similar number of glider pilots to UK that has 20% of the US population) compared to the whole of Europe. There are still long waiting lists for 'German' gliders. John Galloway At 14:36 10 January 2004, Vorsanger1 wrote: Eureopean manufacture will not die. The actual manufacture will just move to areas of lower costs...just like 'back office' jobs of US companies are acutally located in India and the Philippines. This already in place as the production of 'German' gliders is actually taking place in Slovenia and other countries. Also, I would imagine that there is a large enough demand in Europe to keep companies in business for a while longer, at least until the cycle is completed, the Euro drops, US$ strengthens, and Americans start buying sailplanes again... you might want to let the Geman manufacturers know this!
they apparently are unaware of this waiting list.... tim "John Galloway" wrote in message ... There are still long waiting lists for 'German' gliders. John Galloway |

Will this end the purchase of new sailplanes by Americans - and others? Will the European manufacturers die - like LS? Is our soaring sport on the way to extinction? Even more worrisome, I've heard rumors that the sky is falling. The sky falling will have a terrible effect on soaring, and all other forms of aviation. |

Certainly our current crop of sailplanes can last at least thirty years

What exactly did you mean by "..sky is falling..."? Is this another
"brilliant" idea of Bush's administration? (Liam Finley) wrote in message . com... "Dan Dawson" wrote in message ... Will this end the purchase of new sailplanes by Americans - and others? I agree with this guy and will put my name to it.
However, the PW5 it is not the fault of the Poles. They did a good job given the parameters they had to work within. The PW5 class has proven itself a failure but I still believe in the concept of the World Class. The PW5 has failed because most competition pilots want to fly decent ship. Just count it... Regards, Mr. Kesik, would you please shut up about your useless Polish gliders? Not one worthwile glider has ever come out of Poland, with your 'stars' PW-5 and Junior belonging to the 'run, do not walk away from' category. Nobody cares. Thank you. |

I'd take a Diana in a heartbeat.
Then again, I'm from Texas, not the good ol' USA of that Yale-y carpetbagger can't-believe-it but-he-makes-Clinton-look-good Bush. BTW--we called him shrub while he was governor. SNIP Thats why the majority of us didn't vote for him ![]() Back to the Diana, any pics are reports on the rewinged, 50-1+ version? |

And it's 52, not 50, to 1. Incredible. If this glider were called "ASW-30", it would be back-ordered for years. There must be a lesson there somewhere... Jack Wyman Diana s/n 001 |
