No, Gail and I can't spend ten days away from the business, and I have this
little EAA meeting/election on Saturday morning that I have to attend. We aren't getting to the gig until Wednesday, and aren't planning on a dorm party this year, so Wednesday night will be just fine. We'll miss your pool party, but Gail wants to stop by your place on the way home, Saturday night if the weather gods smile on us. Got an open room? Jim "Jay Honeck" wrote in message news:RhURd.28444$4q6.18664@attbi_s01... Jim, remember Oshkosh starts on Monday this year. Jay, how is this gonna affect your pool party? Our fly-in pool party will be on Saturday (rather than Sunday) this year, to allow everyone to arrive in OSH one day early, as prescribed by both tradition and common sense. The rec.aviation party at our campsite will still be on Wednesday though, methinks. Or does that interfere with your other parties, Jim? Hey Jim...Yep, I'd be coming from Sacramento. The big issue for me is
buying a plane this year. I know, not an acceptable excuse since we are talking about Oshkosh...but...splitting the rental bill two or three ways does add up. Still got a couple more months to score a plane though. Have the partners, have the cash, know what we want...now, we just need to find that the Arrow with our name on it. If I do manage to be an Arrow co-owner before Oshkosh and the dates work out, a little convoy would be fun. I'd love to make it to Jay and Mary's pool party. I'd probably stay for the entire week. Hey, you might be able to help me out on the airplane front. In your travels, if you see any Arrows for sale, drop me an e-mail. We'd love to find one locally rather than go out of state. Looked at a real nice one in Auburn, even made an offer but the owner doesn't want to deal so we're still looking. -- Jack Allison PP-ASEL-IA Student-Arrow Shopping Student "When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return" - Leonardo Da Vinci (Remove the obvious from address to reply via e-mail) |

The only problem is that our trip seems to be a moving target. First we
were going to get there on Monday after Jay's party on Sunday, but Jay moved it back to Saturday and that made it just one day over our absolute limit. Right now the plan is to depart NoCal early Monday and hope to arrive Oshkosh early Wednesday. Forums Thursday and Friday, EAA Annual Meeting on Saturday, and depart noonish Saturday, home on Monday. Curse those darn aviation theme motel proprietors. How come they never consult with your schedule? :-) Right now the plan is to depart NoCal early Monday and hope to arrive Oshkosh early Wednesday. Sounds like a possible caravan on the way home since I'd most likely plan on leaving Sacra-Tomato Friday in hopes of making it to IOW Saturday.

I'm thinking of making my first trip to Oshkosh this year. I see you got lots of useful advice, but I didn't see anyone mention the Housing Hotline. You'll find the 800 number on the airventure web page. They can tell you about camping, UW dormitories, private homes that let out rooms for the week, and hotels/motels. I've done each of the above options one year or another. My preference is camping on the field. If I stay off-field, it seems to take forever to get there in the morning, free bus service or not. If you're concerned about getting a camping/parking spot, plan to arrive right after the airshow ends. The field is closed for the airshow, then they open it up for departures, then arrivals. The departures, of course, leave empty parking and camping spots. Read the NOTAM for timing information (and then re-read it, and re-read it ...). If you're coming from far away and can't plan your arrival time that accurately, plan to arrive a little early and hang out at Dodge Co. Airport until the right time. There's always an interesting collection of aircraft there doing the same thing. Their fuel is reasonable, and they always have a buffet. Dave |

Read the NOTAM for timing information (and then re-read it, and re-read it ...). This is excellent information, but bewa Right after the airshow is often peak arrival time. You may be cheek-by-jowl with more airplanes than you've ever seen, so practice your slow flight and spot landings. Personally, I try to arrive mid-morning. This time seems to be something of a lull, although it's STILL landing with more planes than I see anywhere else. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |
