![]() "Jay Honeck" wrote in message news:H_Fue.99105$nG6.4927@attbi_s22... Jay, Appleton has had good scheduled service for some time, at least since before 1991 (Snip) Air Wisconsin moved their maintenance down to Milwaukee a couple of years ago, but they and a few other carriers fly in regularly, many times a day. Thanks for the update. That's astonishing, really. I like Appleton -- a lot -- but what is there to justify several-times-daily airline service? Is the local city government paying some sort of a subsidy to Air Wisconsin? -- Not the city... Uncle Sam. It's part of the Essential Air Service program. Check this link you'll be amazed... http://ostpxweb.dot.gov/aviation/rural/49deter.pdf |

(That's when most rural airports lost their airline service.) I wonder whose butt you have to kiss to get your airport on that list? -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

My town El Dorado, AR (KELD) has been under the program since the late 70's, Infact my high school job was gate agent for the ESA carrier at the time Skyways which was later purchased by Midwest. The carrier now is Mesa. I noticed on the above file Iowa City was listed but didn't have a determination you and your chamber need to get with it. Go to your congress criters that's how we did it. |

The "Fox Cities" of OSH, thru to Appleton (including about 3 or 4
others) has a fairly bustling business/industrial base. A bunch of paper companies, insurance, Kimberly-Clark, etc. I distinctly remember that OSH had the subsidized Beech 1900's coming in and out (something like "Great Lakes Air" or similar, and those planes were empty alot of the time!), but ATW I think is mostly bustling because the area is growing quite extensively. Appleton has won the business traveling crowd, hands down. Ryan W. |
