My online flight journals
Hello Everyone,
In March this year I was planning my first long x-country trip in the US. I wanted to fly in Cessna 172 a cost-to-coast trip from California to Florida and back. During the preparations I found invaluable information available on various web pages prepared by other fellow pilots who flew either similar routes or visited the airfields I was planning to visit during my trip. I got some valuable hints from this group too :-) At the time I felt that it would have helped me a lot if all these stories that I found on various pages on the internet were somehow available in one place and arranged in an easy to access way. During the trip I wanted to share the experience from the trip on the go with my family, friends and other who actively helped me in my preparations. For that before the trip started I prepared a HTML page with template for each day and I was manually updating it every day. Although I'm an IT professional even I found a bit annoying having to write by hand HTML. So I thought that if I only had enough time before the trip I should have had created a small database driven web portal that would allow me to submit my daily journal entries much easier and at the same time automatically present them in an elegant way. Finally I always wanted to keep my logbook in electronic form and if possible be able to review my routes on the map and have it aligned with my journals and photo galleries. After the trip I tried to find a product that would address these three needs, but unfortunately I could not find anything like that. So, I decided to give it a try and do it myself. After couple of months of work it is finally ready. You can see all my flying journals at http://www.flyerjournal.com/members/tomek. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do. If you are interested you can also share your journals and maintain your logbook on flyerjournal.com. Just register and explore its potential. FlyerJournal.com membership is for free! You do not need to pay anything neither to become a member nor to use services offered by the FlyerJournal.com. kind regards, Tomek Zielinski PP-ASEL http://www.flyerjournal.com |
