The F-4 Phantom II followed it in production for the USN. The FH-1 Phantom was the 1st American jet fighter designed for carriers. The FH-2 Banshee was a second generation carrier fighter and fought in Korea. The F3H Demon was McDonnell's first swept wing Navy fighter. The original Demon got a poor Westinghouse engine and was redesigned for a larger Allison engine. This version was produced in quantity and eventually armed with Sidewinder and Sparrow missiles. It was replaced by the F4 Phantom II as an interceptor. |
