Drove something like 900 miles, wearing a diaper, to kill some other
chick...

She only had like 1500 hours flight time...????

Barely more than the requirement for an ATP...

My 2... Political correctness run amok. An Astronaut with only 1500
hours???? Egads

I bet my paycheck against anybody's that the "Mercury 7" all had WAY more
than any 1500 hours. Moreover, I bet that the males in her class all had
way more than any 1500 hours.

Hell, I had over 6000 hours before I ever flew an airplane with a copilot,
or for that matter an autopilot.

OL

She was a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) not a pilot. Most of her duty was in
Engineering assignments.

She wasn't an astronaut in the Mercury sense - not a pilot. She is (still
active last I heard) either a Payload Specialist or a Mission Specialist -
my bet is the former.

There is more to being in the shuttle than being a pilot.

NASA is meant to be more about science than the military.

Get with the program, you're talking how many decades ago?

Hell, I had over 6000 hours before I ever flew an airplane with a copilot,

What a hero, now tell us about how you learnt to fly using wing warping.

Mission specialist.

OK, that explains it. Hey why don't we just get some homeless guys to fly in
space. It would save us a ton of money.

There is more to being in the shuttle than being a pilot.

See above...

So where did I mention the military, Brainiac?

Get with the program, you're talking how many decades ago?

Yeah, I know, "dumbing down" is SOP in every walk of life these days. I
predict that soon the minimum requirement for holding a job will be can you
get there at least one day a week...

What a hero, now tell us about how you learnt to fly using wing warping.

Hehehe. Well, Im not quite THAT old....But I did solo in a Luscombe.

Your reference to flight hours and the Mercury program. Weren't early
astronauts recruited from the military and required a minimum number of
flight hours in fast jets (thus ruling out women).

Hey, that makes me overqualified. Perhaps I can get one of those
directorship positions where I sit around and do nothing but collect a huge
pay check. One day a week ought to be fine.

Well, I had hope that you weren't that old? Would have been a good laugh if
you had said otherwise

Your comments are so stupid on so many levels it's difficult to know
where to begin...

OK: the diaper is the least puzzling aspect of this whole episode.
Shuttle crews wear diapers during launch & reentry when they do not have
access to the lavatory.

Political correctness? What? Did you read any other part of her
biography? She is qualified as a mission specialist. She is an engineer.
She does not fly the orbiter.

A couple of the males in her class:
MICHAEL ³MIKE² FINCKE (LIEUTENANT COLONEL, USAF)
NASA ASTRONAUT: over 825 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft
types.

LEE M.E. MORIN, M.D., PH.D. (CAPTAIN, USN)
NASA ASTRONAUT: doesn't seem to be a pilot at all.
