Looking at a not-to-scale scan of a chart on a computer screen is not preparing a flight plan by any stretch of the imagination. Nothing obligates me to use a flight planner. Pilots have been flying for a hundred years without one. No one said anything about you being obligated to use a flight planner, and no one is.
