Thanks Kevin, those are great!

I remember the Phoebus SX being in Ephrata in 71. Full left rudder revealed a small "E" on the hingeline. It was pretty funny to a 12 year old. Good memories.

God how did they do it?

I mean no computer driven air data computers, GPS, FLARM, glide computers, moving maps or transponders? And no tracking or SPOT? Surely this was the height of living dangerously. Plus what did they have to talk about on RAS?

They did it becasue they did not have r.a.s. to waste time on....

Wow. People were so much younger and thinner back then. The gliders by contrast have hardly changed.

is there anywhere anyone knows of where you can get a print of the shot where george is flying the nimbus?

All this Marfa talk reminded me of meeting Billy Shurley there and being
invited to his ranch home. These days I fly his Ag Wagon at Moriarty (it
has a plaque on the panel). I knew he was a nice man, but reading his
obituary was an eye opener:
