| Not to change the subject, but why do you think nitrogen is better than
dry

Proven results in high performance use.

Have you trained at the Anthony Atkielski School of Circular Logic? Would
you care to cite some actual data that says nitrogen is superior to dry air
for tires or struts?

My hypothesis is that nitrogen or argon is in some way superior to dry air
is simply an old wive's tale, not substantiated by data. So far, I have
heard a lot of rationales, but not seen any data. In graduate school in
organic chemistry, we used dry nitrogen or argon to distill a variety of
compounds that were sensitive to water (nothing like distilling
tetrahydrofuran over sodium metal to remove even trace water). It was like
an explosion waiting to happen.

None of the posts I have read has offered a logical explanation as to why
nitrogen is superior in some way to dry air.

If you think you, or anyone else has something to add to this topic, please
feel free.

I could give a **** about you or Bertie, the logic of those interactions has
long been gone. I challenge you or anyone else to give some information that
actually educates the rest of us, because I honestly don't know the answer.

The following research paper has data and a conclusion:

"Effects of Nitrogen Inflation on Tire Aging and Performance"
By John M. Baldwin
David R. Bauer
Kevin R. Ellwood
Ford Motor Company

Presented at a meeting of the
Rubber Division, American Chemical Society
Grand Rapids, MI
May 17-19, 2004

It shouldn't be hard to find. It's on the web.

I just got new tires for my wife's car. They're usnig Nitrogen too.
They put green caps on the valve steam to show its not air.

* *Yes, those green caps have proven to be much better at keeping the snake oil
inside the tire where it belongs. *Also, I have never once seen a car with green
valve stem caps get attacked by elephants, (but that is just anecdotal evidence
and your experience may vary).

Well the Nitrogen they used was free so I reallly don't care too much
if its better or not.

Yep, that's what I thought.

Sorry you misunderstood me, and I misunderstood you.

This went back to the possibility of oxy causing the Payne Stewart
crash, when I replied it was not likely because that was believed to
be a primary pressurization problem.

That isn't what you replied.

The Lear does have an emergency pressurization system. When the cabin
altitude reaches (I believe) 12,000' there is a valve that opens and puts
full, uncooled bleed air into the cabin. There is no mistaking when this
happens; it is loud and it is hot.
