But Blaine IS near Detroit. You just have to take a global view.

Border Shut Near Detroit; Explosives Found

BLAINE, Wash. (AP) - The biggest northern border crossing west of Detroit
was closed Monday after Canadian guards found explosives in a car

entering

Well, the headline is obviously the product of an idiot, but it's quite
likely that Blaine, Wash *is* the biggest northern border crossing west of
Detroit. Not many big border crossings in the west, and I believe Blaine
is somewhere near Vancouver B.C.

Yes. Now more details of the story are coming in. Apparently the woman had a
hand grenade in her glove compartment as she was crossing into Canada. She
was trying to go to Vancouver, WA and got lost. She was also driving the
wrong way in a one way lane at the crossing. Maybe she writes headlines for
a living? Her husband is in the military and he may have accidentally left
the grenade in the car, which is a little odd all by itself. Perhaps a
practice grenade or an inert dummy?

Maybe the phase of the moon had something to do with it. No doubt her kids
will be telling this story on her for years.

OK, I'm probably missing something obvious, but what is it?

Washington State is nowhere near Detroit.

was closed Monday after Canadian guards found explosives in a car entering

They did not specify what type of explosives were found.

What is intended is that Blaine is the largest crossing on the border,
west of Detroit. Not that it's near Detroit.
