Airbike Plans

As an update, I've not received any reply regarding plans. *I'm beginning to think the answer to my question is a resounding 'no' to plans, and I'm not in a position to afford the almost 20K euros (plus shipping) for a built one. *Besides, where's the fun in that? Back to the web to see if anyone has plans. There is a project listed on Barnstormers that might be a fair deal. comes with a Rotax 503. I have a set of plans but I'm not willing to part with them. If I ever get them all converted to CAD I'll post the DXF files...................... |

I'll take a look, thanks, but I'm really interested in building one
from scratch. I have access to AutoCAD 10 and a large-format plotter...is there anything I can do to help convert those plans? |

And I thought I was the slowest person in the world to accept an upgrade... Seriously, though, be very carefull about using AutoCAD-10 or AutoCAD-12 for that type of project. They are outstanding programs; but they were designed for architectural work and their handling of curves is based on constant radii--so you could never accurately loft a wing or plot any part that needs to follow a complex curve. Rib profiles could be left as a scan of the original
somehow...although I don't have that large a scanner, but I have laid out an airfoil profile before in AutoCAD using chord stations and figures as listed in "Theory of Wing Sections". It seemed to reproduce the airfoil faithfully. Such a method could be used here, too, provided the type of airfoil is known. Granted, my offer to help convert the plans to DXF files was shooting from the hip. It would stand to reason that reproduction of the drawings would have to be done with the utmost care. |

Actually, ACad should be perfectly adequate for most of the Airbike. It's a pretty basic set of plans for a basic plane. It's all 2D on paper so there is no need for 3D files. I have better CAD and can do the "nasty" stuff. If you or anyone else is seriously interested in doing the Airbike in CAD I'd be willing to kind of coordinate the project, even though I don't have time to make much of a contribution myself due to other projects time demands. I'll never build one but I know that there are many others that probably would if they could get a set of plans.................. Contact me off list if you are interested. |
