Hi,
I think what is happening is that you are looking at the wrong flight log files. I have seen this many times. The files downloaded from the Volkslogger will contain its serial number in the filename. But the file you are looking at is probably a file generated by pocket*StrePla's "PDA logger" which logs the flight while you fly. My guess is that you downloaded the flight logs from the VL to a different directory on the memory card. I am not aware of any soaring flight log download software that changes the filename. Best Regards, Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring, Inc. "RN" wrote in message ... The security code in my Volkslogger is A21, and when downloading flights the file is shown as xxxA21jx.igc when downloading directly to the computer using SeeYou. When downloading to a PDA using P-Strepla, the file comes up in the format xxxXBW11.igc. I am confused and have been unable to find why the file name is different, or how it is assigned by P-Strepla if that is what is happening. Any guidance from someone who understands this will be greatly appreciated. |

Now, I just need to figure out why P-Strepla shows it has found the Volkslogger, and has the correct file, but somehow downloads the SeeYou file on the PDA to the SD Card. I've just browsed P-Strepla's features, and it seems to me that this software cannot download files from flight recorders (like Volkslogger). It only uses Volkslogger as a source of GPS signal and barometric altitudes. So P-Strepla is perfectly correct saying it has found and connected to Volkslogger. But it has nothing in common with IGC-sanctioned flight recording. SeeYou Mobile cannot download files as well. There's a companion application called ConnectMe (freeware) which does it. Usually there's no need to download logger's files to PDA, as they are to be analysed on PC anyway. You can connect Volkslogger to PC directly to make the download. -- WojtuÅ›.net |

Laptops are impossible to use outside because the bright daylight washes out the screen. Personally I use SoarPilot on a Palm Tungsten T, which is very usable outdoors. It also downloads the log files from a variety of loggers onto an SD card. After flying I usually do that while I'm wiping the bugs off the wings. At US contests where you only have an hour to deliver your log file to the scorer (unless you land out, of course) the delivery of the igc file usually comes before pulling the wings. Of course with the VL you can just take that with you and download it directly to the scorer's computer. However, for people with permanently mounted loggers like the Cambridge 301 or LX flight computers you have to download in the cockpit. I believe ConnectMe is provided free and runs on all the WinMobile platforms. -- Matt |

And that begs the question of whether the original poster meant pocket*StrePla or pocket*StrePla-Connect (like I assumed but maybe wrongly). But if somebody is already using SeeYou Mobile on a PDA, using ConnectMe would seem the more likely route. Many people download to a PDA or its SD card. If you already have a PDA for navigation connected to the logger then you already have the cabling needed and the PDA is already there with you in the cockpit. Juggling a laptop at the glider to do this can be more cumbersome. Darryl Darryl |

Downloading traces from loggers is a pita and takes considerable time which could be better (or more enjoyably) spent in the bar! SeeYou even provide a free program (IGCMail) which collects igc files from an email account which makes it even simpler! Neither this nor the igc file on a card absolves the pilot from the responsibility of keeping the original trace in the logger for possible checking. |
