srollin- Then there was the guy BRBR

Flew outta VaBch on a hurrivac, F-4J, VF-33. I left with Jeff Giddings in the
other A/C, flew to Wright-Patt. When we landed we both noticed that his jet
smelled 'fishy'...saw that he ate a seagull probably on takeoff. Feathers and
guts and such all over the intake, nose cone of the engine. Engine worked
fine....those J-79s!!

Most of us use the whole airplane for birds... Got 2 ducks at once with an A-6

This raven was sitting on the ground (well, probably on part of the
target or something, not the actual ground) when my friend dropped the
ordnance on it, I think from an F/A-18. It wasn't a bird strike in
flight.

When I was going through VT-10 back during the first Nixon administration,
one of the squadron's UC-45Js was hit by a buzzard during a low level VFR /
NAV hop over scenic southern Alabama.

(I say "hit by" because the Newtonian mechanics of a large - and in this
case, recently well-fed - buzzard striking a C-45 are a lot different than
those of a pointy-nose taking some poor little sparrow against a wing
hardpoint.)

Luckily the damn thing hit the aircraft square between the pilot and
co-pilot positions, with the gooey red ball of feathers, feet and
semi-digested carrion disintegrating on the way through the cockpit and into
the pax compartment. Not unlike the oft-quoted "hitting-the-fan" metaphor -
just different materials in the scatter.

Everyone made it back safely to the VT-10 line at NPA, but if they could
have clawed their way through the concrete the crew would have shed and
buried their flight suits on the spot - such was the stench. I'm not sure
but I think the poor C-45 was stricken due to the level of damage and the
age of aircraft.

Remember: It's called a "Bugsmasher" - not a "Buzzardsmasher." g

Little Bitty Blue Death from above!

(Although I did see a guy kill a rattlesnake with a BDU-33 on the
flightline once... yes, it did have a charge in it and yes, the guy was
an idiot.)

Why the fuss. Everyones been missing the bombing range at RAF Holbeach for
years. Used to be a weekly occurrance to get calls about practice bombs
being found miles arround when I was in the Police there.

We had a F-117 bomb West Texas last year. He bombed a interstate dumpster &
somebody's bathroom before he found out he was dropping practice bombs. He
claimed he didn't know the jet was loaded with them, which may be true. The
investigation revealed he was running late, missed most of his pre-flight
briefing, his jet crapped out & switched planes at the last minute and
didn't pre-flight it.

Dangerous play makes for dangerous accidents...you should get to read
the yearly "TFOA" reports - "Things Falling Off Aircraft".
