I know the NK CLearNav includes a GPS and flight recorder, if they just want to sell varios to people who already own a ClearNav that a fine, but a market limiting plan. I know they have been working with a few people for product feedback but again with no market to damage they could be getting very wide feedback from discussing specs more openly. So the next obvious question is is there a GPS option so the vario can pass out enhanced NMEA data with wind and other data for PDA and other flight computer users? I'd also hope that a really new generation vario/flight computer would be capable of pulling together air data etc. and logging that to the IGC file for post-flight wind construction and other analysis. I can't wait to fly with one. Best Regards, Paul Remde "Darryl Ramm" wrote in message ... On Sep 12, 5:43 pm, brianDG303 wrote: Does anyone have a clue as to the features of the NK vario? Is it or is it not a real product? They have no current vario product line to harm so some details and realistic schedule setting cannot hurt. Darryl Darryl, that is my feeling exactly, with that limited feature set I'll hope to run GPS from Powerflarm and keep my B40, while waiting for a much better vario option. Which might be more like the Tasman V2000 Variometer with FP10 Flight Pack than the described NK vario. Check out the Westerboer VW1020 that connects with a VW1150 CANbus unit (with adjustable baud rates) *for two way communication between the Vario and a PDA, *being feed by the GPS. Recently purchased the VW1020 and it is an excellent STF Vario with easy inputs for polars and other flight parameters. I hate to hijack the thread, but how did you set up the VW1020? It looks like it prefers to use electronic compensation; it doesn't have a separate static connection to figure out airspeed, e.g. One can connect it to the total energy probe, but the computed airspeed is going to be off. -- Matt |

It is near perfect out of the box with my RS-15 after inputs for the wing loading and polars were entered. It should work fine without any major adjustment, but the adjustment is in the menu structure and easy to find and do. You can use your TE probe if you want. You connect it to the static side of the VW1020 and have the compensation for the vario set to "1". Using electronic compensation the setting is "0". I wanted to have my mechanical on the probe and the VW1020 through its electronic compensation. They both are the same (very minor difference in response time) when compared to one another, and accurate. This is a great vario. If you are thinking of buying one, I do not think you will be disappointed, and if you have one, just plug it in and try it. It should be fine with little or no adjustments. Mike "0" |
