If the camera is attached to the tow rope via wing tape, it will twist with the rope no matter what fins you put on. You would have to devise a ring of some sort that rotated freely.

Cool video. A camera angle I have never seen before.

It would be interesting if you mixed some Left-Hand weave rope with some
Right-Hand weave rope...
Maybe it would just all unravel !

Pete

I just taped the camera to the rope about 20 feet or so from the glider

end

of the rope. Nothing fancy, just a whole bunch of wing tape. And yes the
twisting is from the hollowbraid rope coming under thension. Until I
watched
the video I didn't realize how much it twists when you apply tension.

Hi,
I am Kostas from Greece. Last summer I did exactly the same. You may see in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TfSpwGUX4s some photos from the video. I think the result is nice. Have a look after 1:30''!
Thanks

psychedelic of course.

Many (30+) years ago, a photographer at Booker thought it would be good to
take pictures of a K13 on tow, from straight ahead (the tow rope). So he
fashioned a Styrofoam box - with stabilising fins - to house a motordrive
Nikon and attached this to the tow rope. The compbination took off, did its
stuff and came back - without the styrofoam box and the camera. It hasn't
(AFAIAA) been found yet!
A much less expensive exercise nowadays with cheap digital keyring cameras
etc.!

Next time you try it put another cam 180 degrees towards the tow plane. Lots to see there much more really? Might actually see the other cam looking at you?

Mercy! That took lots of effort all along the production chain. Nicely done!

Has anybody tried the same trick with a winch? Putting the camera near
the parachute end of the shock rope may work quite well.

I used a similar camera with wing tape to a winch cable (spectra) a few months back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36Wb1s0tHZs
