Recommend a stop at Cleveland's Burke Lakefront airport, a very
nice downtown airport on the shore of Lake Erie, similar to the
now-closed Meigs Field in Chicago.

Happy landings,

Bangor as in Maine? That's quite a dog-leg!

If you are in Maine, you might visit Wiscassett. A lovely town and a
nice FBO called Wicked Good Aviation. (I'm particularly fond of the
FBO because the lady does props, which is a dying art in America.)

If you're going to stop at museums, on the way from Bangor

the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space museum.

A wonderful museum, and an excellent piece of advice.

He'll have to take a taxi(cab) from the airport to the museum. Lots of
motels in the area: U-H is worth an overnight. See
www.warbirdforum.com/udvarhaz.htm for my impressions.

Katama field on Martha's Vineyard (1B2) is always worth a stop and can
probably be worked into the Maine-Florida leg pretty easily. It's one of the
largest and best-maintained grass strips in the country with a 4500' main
runway that can handle anything smaller than a citation. May would be a
great time to be on the Vineyard since everything will probably be open but
the tourist crush won't have begun in earnest. If you want to spend a bit
more time you could also make the run out to ACK.

From Chicago, Kalamazoo, MI is only an hour east. Stop in at the Air Zoo on the
AZO airport. You won't regret it.
