Do take the time to overfly the dam on the way in, its a fabulous
site from the air, but of course "don't linger". There is typically a
high density of tour traffic over the area, including helicopters at
3000'. The tradition is to self-announce on the grand canyon
frequency (120.65). You'll hear people saying things like "...
right turns above the dam at 3500". Boulder City is 8 miles
to the south west.

Cool, that was what I was looking for. I wasn't sure where in the state
the thing was even located. Knowing the nearest public airport get me
on track!
Thanks!

I rented last week from First Flight at North Las Vegas (KVGT). We did
the same last February. Hoover Dam is about 10 flight minutes from
Boulder City. It's a little farther from North Las Vegas and takes
longer because of the Class B. When you are in the vicinity of the dam,
be on the lookout. There are lots of scenic flights, both fixed wing
and helicopters in the area. When we were there on Sunday the 20th,
there was a guy in a Bonanza who was totally confused in the class B VFR
route, argued with the departure controller, feigned a bad radio
connection to cover his confusion, then almost hit us over the dam. We
scooted out of there and went over to Boulder City to shoot a very windy
landing and to walk around. It was pretty quiet.
